Fuel duty stabiliser quietly sidelined
Industry website, FleetDirectory.co.uk has expressed its disappointment that the fair fuel stabiliser has not been confirmed for introduction during George Osborne’s first Budget statement.
Instead the Chancellor confirmed that the new Government would stick to the plans of the old; with a penny rise set for October and a further penny rise in January 2011.
However the website welcomes the news of measures to support the private sector and especially small businesses through cuts to corporation tax and NIC exemptions.
“We all knew this Budget would impose some tough cuts that will affect all of us, but by keeping the planned increases in fuel duty and introducing a VAT rise in January, businesses and consumers will be hit on both sides. Businesses dependent on transport desperately need some relief from record fuel prices. It is only right that the Government too should shoulder some of the pain caused by unfair fuel prices in this country,” says FleetDirectory.co.uk spokesperson Richard Lawton.
“The coalition Government has failed to deliver on its promises already. A fair taxation system for fuel would have benefitted everyone in this country and encouraged the sustainable recovery this Government claims to be seeking,” he adds.
