Highways Agency to Strengthen and Resurface Bridges over M5 near Tewkesbury

The will carry out work to strengthen and resurface two bridges over the north of Junction 9 (Tewkesbury). Work will be carried out on Northway Lane and Northway Back Lane bridges over a period of 30 weeks.

A 15 week programme of work will begin on 7 July on the Northway Back Lane Bridge. This will be followed by 15 weeks of work on the Northway Lane Bridge. Each bridge will be closed to vehicles during its phase of work, with a clearly signposted diversion route in place. The bridges will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists throughout the scheme.

To limit delays to drivers the work will be carried out day and night, seven days a week.  To provide a safe working environment, the M5 will have three narrow lanes in each direction and a temporary speed limit of 50mph through the work site. Road users are advised to allow additional time for their journeys during these works.

Highways Agency project manager, Mark Collins, said:

“This work will strengthen and resurface the deck of both bridges and improve the drainage system.  Drivers are advised to allow more time for their journeys to follow the diversion or pass through the roadworks on the M5.”
