Resurfacing and improvements works on the A30 at Tolvaddon, near Redruth enters next stage

A programme of repairs and resurfacing which began in June on the between the Avers and Tolvaddon junctions near Redruth will enter its second stage next week.

From Monday July 19 the westbound entry road at Avers Intersection and the westbound off exit road at Tolvaddon will be closed for approximately three and a half weeks.

Traffic wishing to access the A30 to travel west from Avers Intersection will be diverted east on the A30 to the Chiverton Roundabout where it will be directed to return westwards along the A30, approximately 8 miles.

Westbound traffic wishing to exit the A30 at Tolvaddon Junction will be diverted on the A30, then off at Treswithian Junction to return eastwards to exit at Tolvaddon Junction, approximately 3.5 miles.

In addition to resurfacing, the works includes renewing expansion joints on Blowinghouse and Gilbert’s Coombe bridge decks, repairs and improvements to the drainage system, new safety barriers, renewal of road signs and new line markings and road studs.

Highways Agency project sponsor, Lynton Cocks, said: “Although minor work is being carried out during the daytime, major work will take place at night to minimise disruption to road users.

“The work will bring this section of the A30 up to the latest standards, providing a smoother road surface and a safer journey for drivers.”

A 50mph speed limit will be operation during the works for the safety for drivers and the workforce and this will be enforced with the use of an average speed camera system. The speed limit will remain in place 24 hours-a-day throughout the contract as the road will not be up to full standard until completion of the project.

Cyclists are reminded that they must not ride through this section of the A30 while the works are ongoing because narrow lanes in operation make it extremely dangerous to do so. The A3047 can be used as an alternative route. There is a legal order in force prohibiting cycling for the duration of the works and cyclists who ignore this could be liable for prosecution.
