Highways Agency to Resurface A449 near Coven (Wolverhampton) to improve safety for road users

The Highways Agency will begin resurfacing works on a one mile section of the A449 near Coven (Wolverhampton) on Monday 2 August to improve safety for road users. The work will finish by Thursday 19 August.

The work is being carried out on the stretch of the A449 just north of M54 Junction 2, up to the Brewood Road roundabout.

Small sections of urgent resurfacing work will be carried out in both directions due to the emergence of cracks and rutting in the road surface. Once complete, the surface which will include anti-skid materials at the approach to Brewood Road Island will result in a safer road for motorists.

The majority of work will be carried out overnight between 8.00pm and 06.00am Monday to Friday when the road will be closed in one direction and a fully signposted diversion in place. Three days of work during the daytime will also be required but these will be carried out with only one lane closed and a temporary speed limit in place.

This important work has been programmed to be completed ahead of the V Festival at Weston Park as the A449 is used by many of the 85,000 festival goers to access the entrance on the A5 from Friday 20 August.

Laura Mobley, Highways Agency project sponsor, said:

“The Highways Agency is committed to minimising delays when carrying out road improvements. This urgent resurfacing work will ensure the carriageway is maintained in good condition and improve safety for road users.  Drivers are requested to proceed with care through the works area and pay full attention to any traffic cones and temporary signs that will be in place.”
