epyx developing tailored disposal route technology

, the IT solutions specialists for the automotive sector, says developing technology is now allowing leasing fleets to find the best disposal route for most cars or vans on an individual basis with disposal managers now able to build an exact picture of where a vehicle is likely to achieve the best possible price and use that route, all through their PC or laptop.

Ken Trinder, head of business development at epyx, said: “if you look back just a few years, the number of disposal routes that were available even to the largest fleets was limited. They might use perhaps half a dozen auction sites and a pool of maybe a hundred dealers and traders across the country.

“Because of this, vehicles were often disposed of in blocks – all the mainstream hatches might be sent to an open auction while saloons from a prestige manufacturer might all go to the same franchise dealer group as approved used stock.”

Trinder continued: “Disposal managers can now build up a very detailed view of the market. They can pretty easily find out where particular makes and models of vehicles have performed well in recent months and use that information.

“What technology is now allowing them to do, and the picture is developing all the time, is tailor a disposal route to each vehicle or small batch of vehicles and monitor the results being achieved in order to guide their future disposals.

“Conversely, if they have a large number of similar or identical vehicles, they can split the batch across a wider number of disposal routes in order to minimise the impact on values.”

“They can identify which traders who use 1link Disposal Network may be interested in particular vehicles or types of vehicles, or which auction site that can be accessed through the platform has a suitable specialist sale coming up.

“It is this kind of on-the-ground knowledge that is helping many to keep their disposal values as high as possible, especially at a time when prices generally are falling.”
