A30 near Staines: resurfacing and improvement work starts
Work on a scheme to resurface the A30 near Staines and improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and disabled users gets underway next week.
The scheme will see a shared cycle and footway created on the eastbound A30 London Road, and bus stops improved on both sides of the road to make buses more accessible to the disabled.
Work on the 11-week scheme is due to start on 17 January 2011 and will involve a combination of off peak lane closures and overnight road closures. There will also be some overnight closures of some slip roads at the M25 junction 13 and some weekend working. All closures will be clearly signed with diversions in place.
Peter Rix, Highways Agency area performance manager for the M25, said:
“The improvements and resurfacing are part of our commitment for safer and more reliable journeys for road users and pedestrians and will minimise any unplanned closures due to maintenance in the future. There will also be improved access for public transport and better lighting.
“The work has been carefully planned to minimise disruption and to enable it to be completed as soon as possible. This means there will be some 24 hour work.
“Road users who are affected by this work are advised to leave more time for their journeys.”
A shared cycle and footway will be created from the existing footway on the eastbound A30 from The Crooked Billet roundabout to just near Harrow Road.
Improvements to the existing bus stops will include new kerbs which meet bus door level, better signing, and wider, less cluttered waiting areas. These are to ensure the stops comply with the Disability Discrimination Act.
Resurfacing to improve the road condition will take place on both lanes of both carriageways along the A30 from the M25 Junction 13 to just near Harrow Road.
