Resurfacing works for A45 in Northants

Drivers using the near Wellingborough in Northamptonshire are being advised that work to give them better journeys is taking place over the next few weeks.

Two resurfacing projects are taking place which will require overnight carriageway closures between 8pm and 6am on weekdays – although any delays to drivers are expected to be minimal.

The Highways Agency is spending £255,000 on a scheme to resurface the carriageway at Stanwick roundabout and a half-mile section of the main carriageway in both directions north of the roundabout.

The route is north east of Wellingborough town centre. The week-long project will start on Monday, February 21, and will require the full, overnight closure of the roundabout and main carriageway between Stanwick and Raunds.

The work, which will be completed by 6am on Monday, February 28, is not expected to cause any daytime delays to drivers. When the roundabout and main carriageway are closed signed diversions will be in place for drivers heading for the A6 and Rushden south of the roundabout and towards the A14 and Thrapston north of it.

A second, £60,000, resurfacing scheme at Wilby Way roundabout, south of Wellingborough, will be taking place next month between Tuesday, March 8 and Saturday, March 12.

The work will involve resurfacing a short section of the westbound A45 just east of the roundabout with the A509 and will require closure of the westbound carriageway from Turnells Mill Lane right up to Wilby Way roundabout.

Highways Agency Project Sponsor Mark Braithwaite said, “These works over the next few weeks are planned and routine maintenance and will enable us to ensure road users continue to enjoy safe and reliable journeys along this important route. The resurfacing will provide a smoother experience for drivers and a quieter road for all.

“We have worked hard to minimise inconvenience and disruption to road users but would like to thank everyone in advance for their patience – especially those who may have to take short off-peak diversions.”
