Talent Management event to be held by CIPD
In today’s climate, no time is better than the present to ensure that businesses attract, develop and retain talent, according to Resourcing and Talent Planning Adviser Claire McCartney at The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). She explains that talent management is a vital part of the learning and development equation, as it is an organisation’s people who will ultimately ensure its competitive edge and long term success, especially as it refocuses on the road to recovery.
In light of this, the CIPD plans to bring talent management to the forefront of learning and development practice at its annual HRD Conference and Exhibition this year, by focussing a whole day’s activities on building talent strategy in order to help drive long term business success. The one day event will focus on creating a talent road map that fits the current business context, immersing delegates in all aspects of talent management along the way.
Taking place on the second day of the conference (7 April), expert practitioners and talent professionals will use an interactive format to work through specific business challenges, with a view to breaking down the traditional barriers between facilitator and audience and maximising peer to peer learning. They will use multiple learning styles, from practical exercises to group discussions, to enhance the overall experience for delegates and engage them with the topic.
The desired learning outcomes for delegates include:
- an ability to align talent strategy to wider organisational strategy
- an understanding of the various expectations around talent management and how they can be met
- an ability to break down the barriers to successful talent development programmes
- learning of the processes necessary to manage and minimise the risks associated with talent development
- an acquired knowledge of how to bridge the gap between strategy and implementation.
As Claire McCartney says: “If organisations want to create sustainable high performance cultures, talent is the key. Developing your people in a way that inspires motivation and meets business-critical needs is an essential way to address business challenges head on.”
Speakers at the event include:
- Pat Taylor, Head of Talent Management and Development, National Audit Office
- Claire McCartney, Adviser Resourcing & Talent Planning, HR Capability, CIPD
- Grahame Broadbelt, Director of Development, Tomorrow’s Company
- Simon Lloyd, HR Director, Santander
