Fleet Heroes more impressive than ever
The recent 2010 Fleet Hero Awards revealed the economic climate to be a powerful spur for many companies to take action. As Ian Featherstone, fleet advice manager for the Energy Saving Trust, says: "It all comes down to pounds. If you implement green fleet management practices you will save money."
Hampshire Partnership NHS Trust won the grey fleet management award by cutting its mileage rate to discourage grey fleet journeys and introducing more low-emission pool cars, a lift-sharing scheme and ‘smarter driving’ training.
The ‘Leadership in private sector’ winner Wilmot Dixon, uses a combination of incentives and penalties, fining departments with drivers covering excessive mileage but awarding cash bonuses to people who choose low-emitting cars.
The Innovation in fleet management winner was Camden Council for its breakthrough use of compressed biomethane gas from landfill sites to power part of its van fleet.
