Fleet bosses look into their Crystal Ball to monitor drivers

HTCphoneA new mobile phone is calling time on skiving fleet drivers.

Crystal Ball allows employers to ensure that staff who are out on the road can’t abuse the privilege, forcing them to clock in and out using the touch screen on their mobile phone.

The app, which works with BlackBerry, Nokia and Windows Mobile smartphones, feeds back live information, recording speed, journey time, distance and precise location through employees’ and could bring an end to staff slacking off when out of the office. It also allows employers to monitor call stats, text messages and the use of hands-free kits via a web-based system.

Raj Singh, managing director of Crystal Ball, said: “I think there are many business owners who can think of examples where employees have taken longer than required whilst out of the office – using the opportunity to speak to their partner on the phone, catch up on some shopping or just generally swing the lead.

“Bosses also frequently let workers take company cars or vans home so they can set off to an appointment or job the following day. But they have had no real way of knowing what time their employees set off or even how much of the fuel in the vehicle has been used up for private use, which is an extremely important area, along with the increased wear and tear on the vehicles and increased running.”

When the working day is done, the employee can activate a privacy button to stop recording worker movements.

Mr Singh believes Crystal Ball will help businesses making vital savings in a crucial financial period.

“These are tough times for many businesses and now they need all staff to be as productive as possible,” he added.

“Our work with major companies across the UK has helped identify this issue and it is something which, if managed properly, can help improve customer service, productivity, efficiency and profitability.

“The amount of legislation that exists out there is frankly scary and businesses are liable for so many things today and it’s only going to get worse. Our technology can help them in the management and protection of their workforce as well as management and protection of their workforce as well as compliance with that legislation.”
