A19 Wallsend Interchange, southbound exit slip road resurfacing

Resurfacing and lining work will begin tonight on the southbound exit slip road at Wallsend Interchange in Tyne and Wear.

Work will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am and will be completed by Thursday 17 March.

As the works will be taking place at the junction of the slip road and the A19, it will be necessary to close both the A19 southbound carriageway between Silverlink and Wallsend and the southbound exit slip road.

Traffic wishing to travel south from Silverlink Interchange will be diverted along the A1058 Coast Road to Norham Road to rejoin the A19 at the Wallsend Interchange.

Highways Agency project manager, John Sheerin, said: “When complete these works will prolong the life of the carriageway, enhance the reflectivity of the road markings and improve road safety at this junction. We ask that drivers take extra care when travelling along the diversion route.”
