FTA president elected to serve second term

Stewart Oades, Director of Palmer and Harvey and a Trustee of international development charity Transaid, has accepted to serve a second two-year term as President of the Freight Transport Association after being re elected at a recent Board meeting.

Commenting on his re-election, Stewart Oades commented: ”FTA is an exceptional organisation providing first class business services, advice and lobbying  for its members throughout the supply chain.  It is a pleasure to be able to work with its highly professional and enthusiastic employees, Council members and my fellow directors.  I am looking forward to my next term and to ensuring we continue to develop the organisation to meet our members’ needs.”

Stewart, has been FTA President since April 2009, having taken over from Andrew Haines.  He has been on the FTA Board since 2007, and has over 30 years’ experience in the logistics industry.  He has an honours degree in business studies and a CPC which he was awarded by FTA in the early 1980s.

Stewart recently presented Transaid with a cheque to celebrate reaching the £50,000 mark in FTA’s annual membership renewals fund-raising scheme.  In June he will be taking on a marathon challenge when he leads a 14-day cycle ride around the UK in aid of Transaid’s Professional Driver Training Project, which is helping to save lives on Africa’s roads.
