Northgate employees meet Ms Safe and Mr Sound

Ms Safe & Mr Sound - Northgate's latest 'colleagues'The launch of a new campaign from will seek to improve the company’s excellent reputation for health and safety.

Fronted by cartoon characters – Ms Safe and Mr Sound – the ‘Safe & Sound’ campaign highlights ten simple points in a bid to raise the standard of health and safety amongst employees.

“The focus of the campaign is to help influence safety behaviour and attitudes, both of which are paramount in meeting Northgate’s objective of providing a safe place of work,” said Colin Gilstin, Northgate’s Safety and Environment Manager.

“Two new colleagues, Ms Safe and Mr Sound, are being used to raise and promote health and safety awareness across all of our workplaces.”

The cartoon couple will suggest important points to employees such as how to lift properly to keeping work areas tidy.

“By following these simple but effective ten key principles, which take a sensible and practical approach to health and safety, employees can help improve standards and avoid accidents or incidents where they work,” added Mr Gilstin.

Darlington-based Northgate’s commitment to health and safety has been recognised on a countrywide scale earlier this year after bagging the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’ gold award for the third year running.

With over 2,000 employees, the company operates a fleet of more than 60,000 vehicles from 62 locations across the UK.

“The overriding objective of the campaign is to improve culture, and everyone’s appreciation of working safely,” concluded Mr Gilstin.

“We want this to become an everyday habit rather than an occasional hindrance. We want all employees to ‘work safe, stay safe’ in whatever role or task they carry out.”
