CV registrations keep on trucking

for commercial vehicles for April enjoyed another successive month of increases, reporting overall rises of nearly a quarter in comparison to this time last year.

Shadowing the healthy performance in the fleet sector [full story], overall registrations for vans and trucks increased by 24.1%, equating to sales of 21,578, which takes 2011’s total sales to 280,775, spelling an incline of 24.3% over the first four months of 2010.

Truck sales were up by 40% last month, taking its tally this year to 37,544. Meanwhile, 18,081 vans were sold during April, pushing its running total for 2011 to 243,231.

Paul Everitt, Chief Executive of the SMMT who published the figures, said: “Demonstrating an ongoing resurgence of confidence in the commercial vehicle market, April recorded the 15th successive monthly rise for new van registrations, up by 21% in the month.

“Truck figures saw even healthier growth, up steeply by 40%, the seventh successive monthly rise.

“Year to date figures for almost every sector were up significantly on 2010, a trend that is likely to cntinue throughout the year.”
