Renault has announced price cuts to some of their greener commercial vehicles in a bid to help drivers in London comply with the new LEZ rules set to come into force from the start of next year.

Up to £6,000 has been slashed from the manufacturer’s vans which meet the city’s Low Emission Zone criteria. Drivers who violate the city’s Low Emission Zone will be slapped with a £100 daily fine and £500 for non-compliance from 3 January 2011.

Besides the Kangoos, the Trafic (Panel Van, Crew Van and Platform Cab) is now up to £4,600 less.

The biggest reduction comes with the Master (Panel Van, Crew Van and conversions) which is now available for up to £6,000 off.

A maximum saving of £4,600 on the Trafic Passenger (nine seats) is also on offer as well as up to £3,600 off Master Passenger models (six, nine and 17 seats).

’s offer will run until the end of March 2012.

Clean up

With plenty of car makers announcing similar cuts last month [full story], Darren Payne, Director of Fleet and Commercial Vehicle Operations for Renault UK, said the company was glad to be involved in efforts to clean up London’s air.

“With our new Renault offers for van and minibus owners, we’re delighted to be a part of helping to drive down vehicle emissions in London,” he commented.

“Not only will businesses operating in and out of the English capital benefit from the improvements of running our latest vans and minibuses, in terms of greater driver and customer comfort and safety, plus fuel savings and charge-free LEZ entry, but London residents and visitors also stand to reap the rewards of less pollution.

“In addition to our Renault eco2 range, to help in the mission of improving air quality even further, especially in urban areas, we’re also the first volume manufacturer to produce our own 100% electric commercial vehicle, Kangoo Van Z.E. (Zero Emission), which is available to reserve now ahead of its official launch later this year.”

Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, was pleased that a number of manufacturers are now offering new discounts.

“I want to make the air cleaner and greener in this great city with the minimum of financial impact for those who need to upgrade their vehicles,” he added.

“Pollution remains a serious health issue, one which I take very seriously which is why as I redouble our efforts to clean up London’s air with one hand, I will also be fending off European fines with the other.”
