2011 Newark & Nottinghamshire County Show: Highways Agency advise drivers to allow extra time for journeys

2011 Newark & Nottinghamshire County Show (14 & 15 May) – Highways Agency advise drivers to allow extra time for journeys

Drivers in Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire are being reminded that the Newark & Nottinghamshire County Show is taking place at the showground at Winthorpe – just off the A46 and A1 – this weekend (14 & 15 May) between 9.00am and 6.00pm both days.

With around 30,000 visitors expected each day, roads around the showground will be busier than usual – especially during usual peak traffic periods in the morning and late afternoon with show goers arriving and leaving the site respectively.

The Highways Agency, which is responsible for the A46 and the A1, has been working with show’s organisers to ensure delays are kept to a minimum.

Highways Agency Traffic Officers at the East Midlands Regional Control Centre near Nottingham will be monitoring traffic conditions across the two days.

Drivers needing to use the road network around the showground, including the A46 and A1, are being advised by the Highways Agency to allow extra time for journeys and to check travel conditions before setting out.

Steve Parker, the Highways Agency’s emergency planning officer for the East Midlands, said:
“We will be doing all we can to manage traffic around the event and keep drivers on the move. Motorists heading towards the County Show and around the surrounding area can help us by planning their journeys and keeping themselves up to date with traffic information.”

Newark & Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society’s CEO Adrian Johnston added:
“We would encourage all visitors to the show to follow the directional signs and not rely on satellite navigation. The routes have been devised to create best flow of traffic following advice from the Highways Agency. We are indebted to the Agency for working with us to help avoid lengthy delays and inconvenience to all road users during the show.”
