M4 Junction 3 to 4 Harlington High Street: Bridge maintenance work to start

A scheme to maintain the safety and prolong the life of the bridge which carries the A437 Harlington High Street over the is due to get underway next week.

The bridge, between junctions 3 and 4 of the M4, will be waterproofed and resurfaced. Expansion joints, which allow the structure to expand and contract with seasonal changes in temperature, will also be replaced, and road markings repainted.

The A437 High Street will be reduced to a single traffic lane in both directions and will be controlled by temporary traffic lights.

Paul Robinson, Highways Agency route performance manager, said:

“This maintenance work will prolong the life of the bridge and reduce the need for emergency repair work in the future.

“The work is taking place 24 hours a day so it can be completed as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to road users.

“However we would advise people affected by the work to leave extra time for their journeys.”

The work which is due to start on Monday 16 May 2011 is scheduled to be complete by Friday 08 July 2011. The work is being carried out in cooperation with the relevant local authorities.

The work will not require any traffic management on the M4.
