High expectations for excavation Volvos
The owner of an excavating business has put his decision to add three new Volvo trucks to his fleet down to their reliability and high quality support from his dealer.
“Although our Volvo FM tippers are very reliable, we always buy Genuine Volvo Parts,” said Kevin Grundy, MD of Grundy & Co Excavations Ltd, who has just introduced three new FMX 8-wheel tippers to his fleet.
“The support we receive from [Volvo dealer] Thomas Hardie Commercials is second to none. They can’t do enough for us. A high level of dealer support is vital to us as we operate seven days a week between 7 am and 5pm.”
The three FMX tippers are fitted with Volvo’s high torque D13C380 13-litre diesel which develops 380hp and 1900Nm between 1,000 and 1400 rpm. The D13C uses SCR technology to achieve Euro-5 emission compliance and the AdBlue tank is sited on the nearside chassis rail.
Kevin Grundy also has high expectations from Volvo’s I-Shift automated transmission: “These are our first Volvos with I-Shift. We expect it to have a beneficial effect on the fuel returns as the drivers can concentrate on driving rather than on selecting gears to adjust to the road conditions.
“We’re sure that the FMX will be a very productive truck on the type of on and off road work we undertake.”
