Hyundai racks up 5m sales
Sales for Hyundai have passed a historic landmark after exceeding the five million point.
After building towards its first million for 19 years, the South Korean car maker has racked up its last million in just three.
Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, said it was a “wonderful achievement”.
He commented: “[This] marks us out as a major player in what is the world’s most competitive car market. But this is just the beginning for the brand.
“We are planning for further sales growth during 2011 to take us to 3% market share in Europe.
“In the longer term, we expect the quality and desirability of our cars to help us maintain our momentum and deliver our next five million sales in a much shorter time frame.”
Hyundai arrived on the scene with the Pony in 1977 and the five millionth car to roll off the Hyundai forecourt was an i30 [pictured], the first Hyundai geared towards the tastes of European consumers.
