‘Jinxed’ Honda’s FR-V is most unlucky

Honda’s FR-V has been branded the most unlucky car on the road and the model most likely to be involved in a crash.

This undesirable accolade comes from Confused.com who compiled accident claims from the last five years to discover that nearly one in five FR-V owners claimed on their insurance following a road accident.

Mazda’s 2 TS TD was deemed the safest car with only nine accident claims from over 1,000 policies, followed by the Ford Focus RS, the Fiat Cinquecento and Nissan’s Skyline.

The Volvo XC90 was labelled the second most unlucky car with a 15.9% claim rate, with the Lexus RX picking up a close third with 15.5%.

Gareth Kloet, Confused.com’s Head of Car Insurance, said their stats only offer a glimpse at accident-related claims and it’d be unfair to blame the model or manufacturer.

“Car accidents are rarely a result of mechanical failures, they are more often caused by human error or just bad fortune,” he explained.

“It could be that drivers of this model [ FR-V] happen to be more careless or reckless than other motorists. Or it could simply be that this group of road users has been particularly unlucky in the period when the data was collected.”
