Brake Awards name fleet safety’s hardest workers
The leading lights in fleet safety were recognised last night during an awards ceremony organised by road safety charity Brake.
For the ninth year running, the Fleet Safety Forum Awards For Excellence acknowledged the achievements of those working within road risk management in front of 270 guests at Alton Towers in Staffordshire on 9 June.
The number of entries for this year’s awards was overwhelming, said Julie Townsend, Brake’s Deputy Chief Executive.
“The Fleet Safety Forum Awards received more entries, and welcomed more guests, than ever before, showing the huge amount of commitment to managing road risk within the industry,” she explained.
“It’s fantastic to be able to recognise companies that are helping drive down crashes and casualties by raising the bar of fleet safety best practice.”
And the winners are…

Safe Vehicles Award: Ocado

A further 22 companies also came highly commended across the nine categories.
Brake felt the work of Richard Hill (Road Risk Manager of the Year) should be rewarded after cutting the number of crashes by more than 66% in just two years.
Donations collected on the night are expected to have raised more than £20,000 for the Brake charity.
Tracey Scarr, Fleet and Road Safety Manager at Arval, who has sponsored the event for the last four years, said: “Road safety is vital and companies cannot afford to neglect their duty of care responsibilities for the safety of their drivers.
“It is always fantastic to see so many companies actively taking steps to mitigate their own road risk and helping to make our roads safer.”
Julie Townsend concluded: “Brake congratulates all the winners, and we look forward to sharing case studies on this impressive range of initiatives through the Fleet Safety Forum throughout the year.”
