Honda named ‘most reliable’ car brand
The most reliable car brands have been identified with the release of a top ten list, naming those to attract the least amount of warranty claims.
Compiled from warranty specialist MB&G’s database, the list was made up entirely of Japanese and Korean brands with Honda leading the pack and Lexus as its deputy.
As more motorists take their cars into their fourth, fifth and sixth years of life, many are realising the financial cost of running an older car for the first time.
“Modern day cars are reliable, but if something starts to go wrong, it’s more likely to be in the fourth or fifth years, or when the mileage reaches 70-100,000 miles,” explained Kevin Pearce, a director of MB&G.
“Cars are packed full of electronic equipment that control everything from the engine management system to the automatic gearbox and a small software glitch can often create issues, in addition to the other components that can fail simply through wear and tear.”
Contrast
Mr Pearce said that the average claim has increased due to more parts and components being replaced rather than repaired, although the list only takes into account the frequency of claims rather than its value which varies depending on the manufacturer and region.
In complete contrast, a report published earlier this month branded Honda the most unlucky car brand [full story].
Three Honda models (FR-V, Jazz [pictured] and CR-Z) were named and shamed in the list, which looked at accident claims from the last five years. The research from Confused.com found that nearly one in five FR-V owners claimed on their insurance following a road accident.
So if your FR-V is involved in a smash, look on the bright side, at least it’s reliable.
