Volkswagen’s CV sales jump by 19%
Volkswagen enjoyed a sharp rise in demand for its commercial vehicles during the first half of this year.
Sales were up by 19% in comparison to the first six months of 2010, resulting an extra 2,400 vehicles being shifted.
“We are really pleased that more van drivers are enjoying driving Volkswagens this year,” said Simon Elliott, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
“It is a great sign that more businesses are wise enough to choose Volkswagen vans in these tough economic times.”
Shake up
The notably stronger sales performance from VW’s CVs has been partly attributed to the Caddy (pictured right), which shifted 1,000 more than in the first half of 2010, making it the best-selling light van in the 2,001 to 2,499 kg class this year.
It sat just ahead of the Transporter (pictured below) which came runner-up in the 2,800 to 3,499 kg medium van bracket, second only to Ford’s Transit.
There may be a updated Crafter due next month but that didn’t make much difference with buyers helping maintain its positive sales figures.
The 240 Amarok pick-ups sold this year also made a nice contribution to VW CV’s sales stats.
It all stands Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in good stead to finish 2011 on a high, added Mr Elliot.
“With our Van Centre network continuing to expand, and the new Crafter set to shake up the large van sector, we will continue to work hard to make more customers happy throughout the rest of the year,” Simon concluded.
