A tidy car is a safe car
Fleet drivers have been urged to keep their vehicle in a decent state to avoid being targeted by opportunist thieves.
A tidy car is a safe car according to the Fuelcard Company who today suggested that cluttered cabins are an attractive and tempting target for petty criminals on the lookout for sat-navs, mobile phones and alike.
With an increase in freight crime of recent (according to Truckpol), fleet drivers should do everything they can to reduce the likelihood of being a victim said Jakes de Kock, Sales and Marketing Director for the Fuelcard Company.
“An untidy vehicle can make it more difficult to identify whether something has been taken, giving criminals time to fraudulently purchase fuel and withdraw money,” he said.
“If spotted straight away, fuel cards can be stopped immediately preventing a petty crime turning into a financial disaster which could cost your company thousands.
“Fortunately for customers of The Fuelcard Company, we offer zero liability optional cover on all our fuel cards.”
Messy danger
Clutter can cause more than just crime. A recent survey from Autoglass found that a third of van and truck drivers have experienced between 11 and 30 near crashes in the last 12 months as a result of unnecessary items rattling around their dashboard and cabin.
“This survey reveals a shocking number of near misses and fleet managers need to address the issue of rubbish in vehicles as a priority,” added Mr de Kock.
“For fleet drivers, their cab is effectively their office and therefore the same health and safety rules should apply.
“Treating company cars, vans and trucks like litter bins will also take its toll the condition of the vehicle and such abuse will affect resale values.”
