RHA criticises fuel greed
The Road Haulage Association has attacked fuel companies for pocketing savings on oil prices.
With the price of a barrel dropping 13% since July, they have been angered by the lack of change in the price at the pump.
RHA Chief Executive Geoff Dunning believes the price for a litre of diesel should be a penny cheaper than the national average (currently 140p) and will give fuel companies a week to address the fact.
“When the barrel price goes down, it takes approximately two weeks for the drop to be reflected at the pump,” he said.
“On that basis, we expect to see the pump price drop by 5 pence per litre within the next week. If this does not happen, we will want to know why.”
Mr Dunning reckons their greed is choking the entire country and a balance needs to be struck urgently.
He added: “This situation is hurting UK hauliers and their customers; it’s also hurting every member of society.
“High fuel prices mean high food prices. You can’t have one without the other.”
