“End the buzz for drug drivers” demand motorists

70% of drivers don’t feel enough is being done to tackle drug drivingThe vast majority of British motorists want a tougher stance on drug driving.

Insurance comparers Confused.com found that 7 in 10 drivers don’t feel enough is being done to tackle the problem and would call on the Government to crack down now.

Although instances of drink-driving have been on the decline, according to figures from the Department for Transport, drug driving was considered to be increasingly common.

Out of the 2,000 motorists polled, 8% of 25-34 year olds admit to using illegal while behind the wheel, while 45-54 year olds were deemed most likely to exceed the drink drive limit.

Confused.com’s Mike Hoban hopes the powers that be acknowledge the growing trend of drug driving sooner rather than later.

“The Government has been boasting about cutting public service advertising but it’s clear that people are concerned about the potential dangers of drug-driving,” he said.

“It has a responsibility to let drivers know that the penalties are severe and that drug-drivers are a danger to themselves and a danger to others.”

The punishment for drink or drug drivers are identical: a minimum 12-month driving ban, a criminal record and a fine of up to £5,000.
