New Kia models secure eco-certificates
Three of Kia’s newest models have sealed environmental approval ahead of their imminent launch.
The Kia Rio, Optima, and Picanto were all awarded ISO 14040 certificates by independent technical inspectors TÜV Nord, who considered everything from exhaust emissions to the materials used in the vehicles’ production during a Life Cycle Assessment.
Benny Oeyen, Kia’s Vice President Marketing and Product Planning, was pleased that the manufacturer’s green efforts had been met with an official thumbs-up.
He said: “Kia models continue to receive recognition from a wide range of independent industry organisations across the globe – for the quality and efficiency of their production methods, for achieving the highest levels of safety and for their striking design.
“Kia is deeply committed to minimising its vehicles’ impact on the environment, and this latest honour follows similar accreditations for the striking new Sportage and for our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Zilina.”
While the Picanto has been available since June, a three-door model is set to hit showrooms from 1 September along with the 85g/km Rio.
Mass production for the 37mpg D-segment Optima Hybrid (pictured) will also begin in September with a view to going on sale before the year is out.
