Awards honour fleet technology’s finest

The leading lights in fleet technology have been honoured in this year’s BusinessCar Fleet Technology Awards.

The Techies, as they’re otherwise known as, recognise companies and suppliers that have contributed towards making fleet operations cheaper, safer, greener, and more efficient.

GreenRoad 360 bagged the Techie award for Best Risk Management System 360 (pictured right) can place the award for Best Risk Management System next to its Best Green Development (Suppliers) gong that it won in 2009.

The win was “particularly gratifying” for Aidan Rowsome, General Manager of GreenRoad 360 (Europe).

“It acknowledges our major investment in both technology innovation and business partnerships,” said Rowsome. “As insurance premiums continue to rise, GreenRoad can help businesses manage their insurance costs by demonstrating a proactive approach to driver risk.

The recently tweaked GreenRoad 360 service provides fleet managers with real-time feedback, online reporting, analysis and coaching on drivers’ abilities, manoeuvres and patterns.

“Managing risk not only results in safer roads for all of us, but also brings benefits through reduced fuel consumption and less vehicle wear-and-tear,” added Aidan.

Fruits will be familiar

White Renault Kangoo Z.E. 2011The award for Best Green Development (Manufacturer) went to Business Electric Vehicles, with their Z.E range (Zero Emissions) impressing judges.

Darren Payne, Fleet and CV Operations Director at Renault UK, said: “The Renault-Nissan Alliance is investing four billion Euros into the Z.E. programme and the fruits of this will soon be a familiar sight on the UK’s roads.

“We’re committed to greener motoring, which, in turn, lessens the cost for fleets.

“Our Renault eco2 range now extends to 51 cars and 32 vans that reach our strict environmental standards for accreditation as eco2 variants. The Z.E. product offensive for this year and 2012 further enhances our drive to significantly lower vehicle emissions.”

Smart app

Volvo's 'On Call' appIt was a third consecutive triumph at the Techies for , this time for its ‘On Call’ smartphone app.

Compatible with any android or iPhone, ‘On Call’ allows Volvo owners to communicate with their vehicle, pretty much anywhere in the world. The app can locate the vehicle, view vital gauges such as fuel, oil and coolant levels, trigger remote locking, and even alert users if the alarm is going off.

Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO at Volvo Car Corporation, said: “We design cars around people’s needs and lifestyle. Creating an intuitive and ergonomically optimised driver’s environment is part of our aim to offer a feeling of relaxed control.

“It is only logical that you should feel in command of your vehicle, including after you have parked it.”
