A34 Road Marking Renewal Scheme
Work starts this week to renew the white lining and road studs across all lanes of the A34 between Winchester and the M40 Junction 9 Interchange. The work will be carried out at night using temporary lane closures between 10pm and 6am and will take around 12 weeks to complete.
A34 Abingdon Resurfacing
Sections of the northbound A34 and the exit slip road at the Abingdon/Marcham Road Interchange will be resurfaced this week. Work starts on Thursday 1 September and is expected to take four week nights to complete. The work will be carried out between 10pm and 5am (Monday to Thursday), and on Friday night from 11pm to 6am, and will require a closure of the northbound exit slip road at Marcham. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place.
A404(M) Western Region Railway Bridge
A scheme to replace the Western Region Railway Bridge on the A404(M) near Maidenhead continues this week. Two narrow lanes remain available at peak times in each direction, and a 40mph speed limit remains in place, with additional off-peak restrictions as required.
There will be two overnight closures this weekend while the road layout over the bridge is altered. The A404(M) will be closed in both directions from 9pm on Friday 2 September until 8am on Saturday 3 September. The northbound carriageway will close again from 9pm on Saturday 3 September until 5am on Sunday 4 September. Fully signed diversion routes will be in place.
The scheme is expected to be completed by the end of September 2011.
M4 Junction 13 – 14 Winterbourne Bridge (near Chieveley)
Safety repair work is taking place to the bridge which carries the M4 motorway over the B4494 between junctions 13 and 14 near Chieveley in Berkshire. Work started at the beginning of May and is expected to be completed by the end of September 2011. Contraflow traffic management is currently in place on both carriageways, with additional overnight lane closures as required. A 50mph temporary speed limit remains in place, enforced by average speed cameras.
M4 Junction 7 Huntercombe Spur (near Slough) resurfacing
Work continues this week to resurface sections of the northbound carriageway of the Huntercombe Spur link road and the slip roads at junction 7 of the M4. Work to the northbound carriageway started on Monday 22 August, and is expected to be completed by Sunday 4 September. All work will be undertaken at night between 10pm and 5.30am.
When work is being carried out, the northbound carriageway of the Huntercombe Spur link and the exit slip roads from the M4 will be closed, with a clearly signed diversion route via M4 junction 6 and the Bath Road .
Safety barrier maintenance – various routes Work to inspect and re-tension safety barriers across motorways and major roads in central southern England continues this week. Depending on the location, work will be carried out during off-peak daytime hours or overnight using temporary lane closures, with occasional overnight slip road closures, which will be confirmed in this bulletin. This work is expected to be complete in October 2011.
A3 Hindhead
This major improvement scheme is now open to traffic.
Bedhampton Roundabout improvement work
A 12-month scheme led by Havant Borough Council to improve the junction at the Bedhampton Roundabout (also known as the Rusty Cutter Roundabout), just off junction 5 of the A3(M) in Hampshire, began in October 2010. The improvements will include the introduction of traffic signal controls at the end of the A3(M) and A27 exit slip roads at their junction with the roundabout. New lanes will also be added to the roundabout itself, on the A3(M) southbound exit slip road and eastbound on the link road to the A27 junction. M275 embankment work
Work to strengthen the existing sea defences along the M275 between Hilsea and Portsmouth will continue this week and is due to be completed by the end of October. Work will be carried out overnight between 10.30pm and 6am, Monday to Friday (and will be subject in part to the tide).
The work will comprise of repairs to the embankment earthworks including remedial works to eroded areas, as well as replacement of damaged kerbing, where necessary. The work will ensure a regenerated long term sea defence which will provide essential protection not only to the adjacent major road network (M275/ M27/ A27) but also to the communities of Hilsea and Portsmouth.
A3 maintenance work, Hampshire and Surrey
Work to renew white lining and road studs along sections of the A3 in both directions throughout Surrey and Hampshire will take place between 30 August and 21 September. Work will be carried out at night between 10pm and 6am. Traffic Management will be in place on different sections of the A3 and will include mobile lane closures with a restricted speed limit of 10mph through the works area.
