‘Perfect’ Picanto picks up first award

Derrick Grocock hands over the Picanto's award to Kia's Stephen KitsonIt has only been on sale since June, but the new Kia Picanto has already collected its first award after the Northern Group of Motoring Writers hailed it ‘Northern Car of the Year’.

On the day that the three-door model hit British showrooms, the Picanto was praised by Northern journos for its ability to deliver slick looks with a drive to match at a highly competitive price.

Derrick Grocock, Vice-Chairman of the group, explained: “’s consistent quality and style have seen them become the only company to have two vehicles in the Top 10 on three separate occasions – and this year Picanto topped the bill with the all-new Sportage right behind.

“Picanto was a clear winner thanks to its looks, quality and excellent packaging which makes it such a perfect city-car.”

Michael Cole, Managing Director of Kia Motors (UK) Limited said the prize was well-deserved.

“We are delighted to get this award from such a well-known group of fair-minded and practical journalists,” he added.

“This is the first major award for Picanto but I don’t think it will be the last.”

The price tag for the Picanto is suitably small, starting from £7,795 for the three-door 1.0L model and £7,995 for the five-door.
