Highways Agency to improve safety on the A14 westbound between junction 5 and 13

Road users will benefit from safer driving conditions as a result of forthcoming road marking and stud renewal works on the between junction 5 and 13.

Work, which will take place on the westbound carriageway, will start on 22 September and is due to finish on 29 September. Work will take place overnight to minimise disruption to road users.

The works will take place in 3 stages, with roadworks only affecting the specific sections being worked on:

Stage one – between junctions 10 and 13, 22 September to 25 September
The signed diversion route for the first phase of the road closure shall be via the A45 southbound at A14 Junction 13, to the A6/A45 roundabout, where traffic can join the northbound carriageway of the A6, returning to the A14 at Junction 10. Overnight closures will be in place at these times:

  • Thursday 22 September 8pm to 6 pm
  • Friday 23 September 9pm to 8am
  • Saturday 24 September 7pm to 10am
  • Sunday 25 September 9pm to 6am

Stage two – between junctions 7 and 12, 26 September to 27 September
The signed diversion route for the second phase of the road closure shall be via the A6116 at A14 Junction 12 northbound to the A43 where traffic can join the southbound carriageway returning to the A14 at Junction 7. Overnight closures will be in place at these times:

Monday 26 September to Tuesday 27 September, 9pm to 6am Stage three – between junctions 3 and 7, 28 September to 29 September

The diversion route for the third phase of the road closure shall be northbound via the A43 and A6003, westbound via the A427, and southbound via the A6 returning to the A14. Overnight closures will be in place at these times:

  • Wednesday 28 September to Thursday 29 September, 9pm to 6am

Highways Agency project manager, Mark Braithwaite said:

“This scheme is to renew road markings and studs along a 13 mile stretch of the A14, which will improve the safety of the carriageway for road users. All work has been scheduled to take place outside of peak hours, although we would still advise motorists to plan their journeys accordingly.”
