Road works information for roads across the North West: 7 days beginning Monday 12 to September 2011
South Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire
NEW SCHEMES
M65 junctions 10 and 12 (Brierfield) and 7 and 8 (Accrington)
There will be some lane closures between junctions 10 and 12, and 7 and 8 of the M65 as resurfacing schemes get underway this week. All work will take place overnight from 7pm to 5am and at least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times, but short delays are expected.
The work between junctions 10 and 12 is expected to take around 2 weeks, while the work between junctions 7 and 8 will last around six weeks.
M56 and M53 (Stoak Interchange)
There will be occasional lane closures overnight and at weekends around junction 15 of the M56 and junction 11 of the M53 at Stoak while work to repair bridges and resurface the carriageway takes place.
50mph speed limits will be in force and fully signed diversions will be in place.
ONGOING SCHEMES
Lymm Interchange (Cheshire)
There will be a number of sliproad closures around the Lymm Interchange between junctions 19 and 21 of the M6 and Junctions 8 and 10 of the M56 while work to improve the interchange continues.
The work, which continues until September 30, will all take place overnight between 10pm and 5pm and will be lifted for the Bank Holiday weekend between 5am on Thursday August 25 and 10pm on Tuesday August 30.
Key sliproad closures include:
- M6 northbound exit slip at Junction 20a onto the westbound M56
- M6 northbound entry and exit slips at Knutsford Services just south of Junction 19
- Entry slip onto the M6 northbound at Junction 20 from the A50 and the Junction 20 southbound exit slip road
- The exit slips on both southbound and northbound M6 at Junction 21
- The southbound link from the M6 at to the M56 eastbound and westbound carriageway at Lymm Interchange
- The eastbound M56 link at Lymm Interchange onto the northbound and southbound M6
- The M56 westbound exit slip onto the A50 and M6 northbound
- The M56 westbound exit slip at Junction 10.
M60 Junctions 19-23 (Middleton to Ashton-under-Lyne)
There will be various lane closures on the clockwise and anti-clockwise carriageways of the M60 between junction 23 (Ashton-under-Lyne) and junction 19 (Middleton) while work to repair the road surface continues. A 40 mph speed limit will be in place for the duration of the works, with average speed cameras in operation. Clearly signed diversions are always in place.
M53 (Bidston Moss)
Junction 1 Wallasey (bridge repairs) – various lane closures in both directions at Bidston Moss Viaduct for bridge repairs. Work continues until the end of March 2012.
During the current phase of works, which will start on 12 August and is expected to last seven weeks, there will be a full closure of the Southbound exit slip from the A5139 Docks Link Road to the M53 junction 1 roundabout and overnight closures of the Docks Links Road from the Poulton Bridge Road roundabout to the A5139 Southbound exit slip.
A diversion will take drivers via Gorsey Lane, Dock Road, A5088 Wallasey Bridge Road, the A553 Hoylake Road and the A554 to the M53 junction 1.
A55, J36a (Saighton Army Camp – near Huntington in Cheshire)
Improvement works to the roundabout ahead of a new housing development mean that various lanes will be closed during off peak periods until the end of October. Once completed, the works will provide an additional lane on the exit sliproad.
Cumbria and North Lancashire
NEW SCHEMES
A590 Brettargh Holt
Temporary traffic lights will be in place overnight from 8pm to 6am while routine maintenance takes place between junction 36 of the M6 (South Lakeland) and the Brettargh Holt roundabout on the A590.
A convoy system will mean that a highways vehicle will guide traffic though the works to ensure that the 10pmh speed limit is respected.
Work is expected to finish on 19 September.
A590 Fiddlers Hall
A short section of the Westbound lane of the A590 near Fiddlers Hall, will be closed between Newby Bridge and High Newton when the second phase of a drainage scheme gets underway on Monday (12 September).
Work will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day and again from 8pm to 6am the following morning.
Manually operated traffic lights will guide people past the roadworks past the Eastbound carriageway and a 40mph speed limit will be in place.
The work is due to be completed on 2 October.
ONGOING SCHEMES
A66 Kemplay Bank roundabout – South of Penrith town centre
Improvement works as part of a new Sainsbury’s development mean that a 40mph speed limit will be imposed from Tuesday 31 May for the duration of the scheme, which is scheduled to finish at the end of November. Two lanes will be maintained on the A66 during the daytime but the roundabout will be reduced to one lane overnight between 8pm and 6am. Three adjacent lay-bys on the A66 will also be closed.
