Volvo’s new concept sedan keeps you in mind
Volvo have laid out their intentions to produce a new luxury sedan with the unveiling of a new concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Taking cues from Jaguar’s XF, the ‘Concept You’ model is essentially a guinea pig – a very dapper guinea pig at that – intended to gather opinion and suggestions from the car buyers worldwide.
The shots deliver an accurate representation of what to expect from Volvo’s next sedan car, so says Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo.
“We intend to be the brand that best interprets what buyers of modern luxury cars want,” he explains. “The blend of contemporary Scandinavian design, exquisite craftsmanship and intuitive technology will appeal to luxury car buyers all over the world.”
With a slick coupé style encasing a high tech interior, the Concept You designs aim to capture the public’s idea of luxury combining swish design with top quality craftsmanship incorporating top tech.
Traditional buttons and knobs make way for touchscreens with a control centre comprising a digital Driver Information Monitor, a windscreen-based head-up display, a touchscreen in the upper part of the centre console and a touchscreen between the two individual rear seats. Even the aluminium and glass paddles on the wood and leather steering wheel have touchscreens. Keep those mucky fingers away!
Peter Horbury, Volvo’s Vice President of Design, says the Concept You splices the classic Volvo look at the front with a more adventurous approach: “The fastback profile mirrors a strong trend among European buyers.
“With growing signs that Chinese taste buds are moving rapidly in the same direction, our main aim is to explore how daring our next large sedan should be in order to be a global success. We are very eager to hear what people think about the Concept You.”
