Ssangtong makes statement of intent at Frankfurt
Ssangyong has revealed the model that will announce the brand’s return to the UK market after a two year absence.
Unveiled yesterday at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Ssangyong believe the SUT-1 pick-up is the perfect vehicle to revitalise the Korean brand, combining industrious practicality with high class comfort.
The five seater SUT-1, which is very close to the concept model that popped up at Geneva in March, will enter mass production shortly and could ship some time in the first half of 2012.
A Ssangyong spokesperson said: “Balancing the needs of load volume with attractive lines, SUT-1 is the ideal vehicle for a wide variety of drivers, whether they enjoy leisure activities such as camping, skiing and cycling or they just need a hard working truck. Far from being a stripped out commercial model, SUT-1 offers the cabin comfort and luxury of a premium SUV.”
Fuel consumption for the 2.0 diesel, four-cylinder model slightly edges the competition from Nissan’s Navara, clocking between 35.3 and 40mpg, depending which wheel drive and transmission you opt for. The same goes for CO2 emissions which range from 186 to 211g/km.
Standard spec includes a sunroof, RDS & Bluetooth audio, rear view camera, hinge sprung tailgate and a trip computer. Safety features take in ESP, dual airbags, Active Rollover Protection and Brake Assist System (ABS).
Ssangyong also brought along its garish XIV-1 concept for the Frankfurt crowds [shown below].
Little more than a design study, the XIV-1 (which stands for ‘eXciting user Interface Vehicle’) aims to highlight Ssangyong’s focus on driver interaction and shape the driver cabin as a living space rather than just a way of getting about.
Ssangyong say the XIV-1 concept merges the robust attributes of a B-segment SUV with the affordable running costs of a small family car.
