TyreSafe’s cool clip demonstrates the benefit of winter tyres

A new video from TyreSafe demonstrates how winter tyres make the difference to steering and stopping distance.

The not-for-profit organisation opted to film the clip in an ice rink to illustrate winter tyres’ superior performance when temperatures plummet.

The video clearly outlines the notably longer length of time that regular summer tyres take to complete an emergency stop while winter tyres depict sharper cornering.

“Our film was shot on an ice rink to drive home the difference between summer and winter tyres in extreme conditions, but in reality, any cold, damp road surface will make a real difference to how a tyre performs,” explains Chairman Stuart Jackson.

“Whenever the temperature drops below 7 degrees Celsius, the tread compound in normal summer tyres begins to harden, providing less grip and reducing safety.”

Mr Jackson insists that winter tyres are the safest and least scary way to go: “For any driver concerned about their safety on the road during the winter, our advice is simple.

“Take a look at our demonstration movie and then you can make an informed choice about whether to fit them or not, but I’m sure many will agree that the results are scary and very convincing.”
