Orders begin for Volkswagen’s up!

Volkswagen has opened ‘up!’ the order book today for its new city car.

Starting at £7,995, the frugal up! was given its world debut during September’s Frankfurt Motor Show and is set to replace the outgoing Fox model when it hits UK roads next spring.

A 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine sits under the hood with the entry engine offering 60 PS while the top trim – High up! – packs 75 PS. A Bluemotion option, available on the middle Move up! trim only, pushes fuel economy from the standard 60.1/62.7mpg to 67.2.

Range topping High up! will set you back £10,390 and is being aimed at ‘sophisticated urbanites’ with its heated front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake grip, electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors, front fog lights and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Special editions of the High up! trim – named up! black and up! white – slap on more style with metallic paint, chrome door mirror caps and door side strips, 16-inch alloy wheels with body-coloured centre sections. Inside there is a body-coloured dash, special ‘stripes’ upholstery and carpet mats. The asking price for one of these is £11,180.
