Skoda Citigo 2011Production has commenced on Skoda’s new small city car – the Citigo – at an advanced production facility in Slovakia.

Expected to arrive in British showrooms next summer, the sub-100g/km Citigo will launch as a three door model and introduce some of brand’s latest safety technology.

A head/thorax side airbag for the driver and front passenger will be included in a for the first time along with a City Safe Drive active brake assistant.

“The Citigo is a central component of our growth strategy,” said Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, Chairman of the Skoda Board.

“With this automobile, we are starting our model offensive in Europe. It opens up the important small car market for Skoda and perfectly applies our values in the shape of a city car.”

Despite stretching for 3.56m by 1.65 metres and standing at a height of 1.48m, Skoda claim that the petite Citigo will be able to comfortably seat four adults.

“Citigo is compact yet spacious, economical yet agile, attractive and equipped with many innovative ideas,” added Vahland. “This car is ‘city clever’.”

Fuel consumption is estimated to clock at 67.3mpg and 65.7mpg depending which two three-cylinder 1.0-litre engine (60PS or 75PS) customers opt for.
