Overnight closures for repair work on the A12 in Essex
Overnight work to repair and improve a section of the A12 in Essex will start on Monday 24 October.
The work will involve the northbound and southbound carriageways of the A12 near Margaretting each being closed for four nights.
Adam Schwalm, Highways Agency project sponsor, said:
“This work will improve the road surface by repairing defects in the road surface and will prolong the life of the carriageway.
“We will also be carrying out work to replace bridge joints on the Southlands Bridge as well as re-painting road markings at various locations on this section of the A12 during the overnight closures.
“The work has been carefully planned to keep disruption to a minimum and that is why it is taking place overnight when traffic flows are lowest. And by carrying out four different pieces of work at the same time we will ensure the safety of our road workers, improve the reliability of the network and minimise future disruption to road users.
“We ask that drivers allow extra time for their journey and take extra care when travelling along the diversion route.”
The work will be carried out on a three-mile section of the A12 near Margaretting between junction 12 (Marylands interchange) and junction 15 (Webb’s Farm interchange).
The A12 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5am, from junction 14 (Furze Hill interchange) to junction 15 (Webb’s Farm) for four nights in the northbound direction (Monday 24 – Thursday 27 October) followed by four nights in the southbound direction (Friday 28 October – Tuesday 1 November – excluding Sunday night).
While the overnight closures are in place traffic will be diverted via the B1002 Ingatestone High Street, Margaretting and Mountnessing.
Between junctions 13 (Trueloves Interchange) and junction 14 and again between junctions 16 (Galleywood Interchange) and 15 two of the three lanes will be closed and a 50mph speed restriction will be in place.
The northbound exit slip road and the southbound entry slip road at Webb’s Interchange will also be closed overnight.
Weather permitting, the work is due for completion by Wednesday 2 November.
