CILT honour Stobart visionary with top award

Peter Hendy President CILT (UK), Andrew Tinkler CEO Stobart Group and Perry Watts CEO DHL Supply Chain (UK & Ireland)Stobart Group CEO Andrew Tinkler has been presented with a prestigious in recognition for his contribution to the logistics and transport industry by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport ().

Tinkler, 48, collected the Sir Robert Lawrence Award for 2011 at CILT’s Annual for Excellence Dinner at London’s Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square on 20 October.

Picking up the award, a proud Andrew said: “It’s an honour to receive the Sir Robert Lawrence Award from the CILT and to be recognised for my work within the logistics industry.

“At Stobart Group, we strive to introduce innovation into the sector and to reduce waste from the industry as a whole.

“More recently, the Eddie Stobart: Trucks & Trailers documentary on Channel 5 has helped to raise the profile of logistics and introduce the industry to a whole new mainstream audience.

“We’ve also just introduced a Logistics Apprenticeship programme as I believe it’s vital to get more skilled young people into logistics.”

Vision, tenacity, enthusiasm

Since buying Eddie Stobart with business partner and brother-in-law William Stobart in 2004, Tinkler led the company’s efforts to deliver sustainable distribution, industry-leading fleet utilisation performance, shifting freight from road to rail and campaigning environmentally friendly trailers to help cut the number of lorries on UK roads.

A statement from CILT praised Tinkler as a deserving winner, noting his “vision, tenacity and enthusiasm to strive for efficiencies and better ways to work” as well as an ability to constantly follow up his promises.

Previous recipients of the award in the past include Sir Moir Lockhead of FirstGroup and Transport for London Commissioner Peter Hendy.

Amongst the other winners on the night, Rachel Beeken, General Manager of Gist Limited, was named Young Manager of the Year in a category dominated by women.

Asda was awarded for its innovations in the supply chain while 20:20 Mobile Logistics was handed the prize for Logistics Best Practice.
