Motorway and Trunk Road Works Programme; Monday 24 to Sunday 30 October

NEW, AMENDED AND ONGOING WORKS:

LEICESTERSHIRE

New – M1 Junction 23, Leicestershire

Start Date: Monday, 10 October End Date: Wednesday, 30 November

Times: Various

Traffic Management:

A northbound 50mph speed restriction will be in place with overnight closure of the northbound exit slip road – signed diversions will be in place. During the day exit slip road lane closures will be in place.

Updated – M1/M6 Catthorpe Viaduct replacement, M1 junction 19

Start Date: July 2010 End Date: April 2012

Times: 24/7 with various other closures to be implemented.

Traffic Management:

M1 northbound – two lanes only running from straight after the M6 northbound exit slip road until the junction 19 entry slip road, with narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction until spring 2012. M1 southbound – two lanes only from the junction 19 exit slip road to the M6 southbound entry slip road, with narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction until spring 2012.M6 southbound – a lane closure and 50mph speed limit is in place on the M6 from just after the A14 exit slip road to where the M6 joins the M1 until Christmas 2011. A stepped speed limit is in place on the M6 from 0.5 miles west of the A5 underpass until the A5 underpass, which will take the speed limit from 70mph to 60mph and then down to 50mph.

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE

New – A45 near junction 15 of the M1

Start Date: Monday, 17 October End Date: Thursday, 3 November

Times: Various

Traffic Management:

Closures overnight between Knuston Farm and junction 15 of the M1 with signed diversions in place.

Ongoing – A5 Watling Street, Towcester

Start Date: Wednesday, 5 October End Date: Thursday, 3 November

Times: 8.00am to 5.00pm

Traffic Management:

Two-way traffic signals in place.

Off peak working for capacity improvement scheme.

Ongoing – A46 Newark to Widmerpool, Widmerpool slip road

Start Date: September 2011 End Date: Mid-November

Times: 24/7

Traffic Management:

Southbound exit slip road from the A46 at Widmerpool is closed until mid-November to allow for the new sliproad to be connected to the new carriageway. A signed diversion is in place.

Ongoing – A46 Newark to Widmerpool, Colston Road near Cropwell Bishop

Start Date: April 2011 End Date: Early 2012

Times: 24/7

Traffic Management:

Colston Road and Radcliffe Road are closed to allow the works to the bridge and new side road to be completed. Once re-opened access to the A46 will not be possible.

Ongoing – A46 Newark to Widmerpool, widening the carriageway

Widmerpool to Cropwell ButlerCropwell Butler to ScrevetonScreveton (Lodge Lane) to Farndon

Start Date: September 2009 End Date: April 2012

Times: 4.30pm to 6.00am

Traffic Management:

Carriageway closures, temporary traffic lights, speed restrictions, verge working and works off the carriageway.

Ongoing – A46 Newark to Widmerpool, widening the carriageway, Saxondale roundabout

Start Date: October 2010 End Date: November 2011

Times: 24/7

Traffic Management:

From 2.00am on Saturday, 29 October 2011 there will be a new layout for road users when northbound traffic is switched to the new A46 carriageway between Stragglethorpe and Saxondale (returning to the existing A46 carriageway at Saxondale roundabout). A few days later at 2.00am on Thursday, 3 November the southbound traffic will also be using the new A46 between these 2 points.

Ongoing – A46 Newark to Widmerpool, widening the carriageway, Stragglethorpe junction

Start Date: 26 October 2011 End Date: End November 2011

Times: 24/7

Traffic Management:

From Wednesday, 26 October northbound entry and exit slip roads at Stragglethorpe junction will be closed for four weeks to allow for a temporary section of road to be re-constructed. Signed diversions will be in place.

Owthorpe junction to Stragglethorpe junction traffic is being diverted off the old A46 onto a new section of carriageway. Access into Cotgrave is not possible via Colston Gate. This change allows work to the new bridge and side road to progress. On completion of the work direct access to the A46 will not be possible.
