Vehicle recall system ‘on course’ for Q3 2012 launch
The development of a new online vehicle recall system designed to help tame administration costs for fleet bosses is very much on track, according to the team behind the project.
Announced last month, the system has been devised by online solutions provider Ebbon-Dacs with the backing of the BVRLA. An open meeting with motor manufacturers next month will discuss and refine the standard recall protocol.
With nearly 1m vehicles subject to a vehicle safety recall notification in the UK last year, the rising costs in administering and managing the range of paper and digital recall notifications fleet owners receive from motor manufacturers is something they can do without.
“There is wide recognition of the benefits the project can bring and a strong desire to contribute to it,” said Robert Pilkington, MD at Ebbon-Dacs.
“We are also working with a sub-group of BVRLA members to define standard data flows for fleet operators and are confident that design will also be complete before the end of November.
“Our primary objective in introducing this new ‘standard ‘ on behalf of the BVRLA is to simplify the process and reduce the administrative burden fleet operators face in handling vehicle recalls, leading to greater efficiency, lower costs and faster safety recall handling in future.”
Ebbon-Dacs hopes to pilot the system in the third quarter of next year.
