A19 resurfacing and bridge works at Killingworth

Overnight work to resurface the carriageway and carry out bridge repairs along the at Killingworth near Newcastle will get underway next month.

The £900,000 Highways Agency scheme, along a mile-long section of the A19 at Seghill Bridge north of Newcastle, is due to start on Monday, 7 November and be completed by Thursday, 28 November.

The work, which includes resurfacing, replacement of bridge joints, drainage repairs and drainage cleaning, will be carried out around the clock with overnight closures between 8pm and 6am each night. Off-peak lane closures will also be in place during the day with a 40mph speed limit through the roadworks at all times when the route is open outside the overnight closures.

When the road is closed, road users will be diverted from Moor Farm roundabout to Killingworth via the A189 and A1056 with the reverse route in operation for road users heading north from Killingworth towards Moor Farm roundabout.

Highways Agency project sponsor Shaun Cullumbine said, "This is important work to ensure we maintain safe, smooth and reliable journeys for road users in this part of the country.

"We always try to time work to take place when traffic volumes are low to minimise any inconvenience to road users and we don’t anticipate any delays of significance but customers should note traffic management arrangements and closure periods."
