Sock it to the snow this winter
It has been stressed often enough how winter tyres can help improve grip and potentially avoid an accident [indeedy] but Vauxhall is anticipating that snow socks will prove a popular and cheaper alternative this year.
Vauxhall Retailers were bombarded with interest for the £50 AutoSock Snow Socks last winter by struggling motorists desperate to make unavoidable or emergency journeys.
More practical and less awkward than snow chains, the snow socks just slip over the tyre to create friction when travelling along ice-rink-esque roads.
Insurers forked out £530m to motorists who damaged their cars in slippery conditions last winter and Sophie Thomas, Vauxhall’s Accessories Manager, reckons the snow socks can play their part in limiting this.
“It’s often difficult to avoid driving on snow and ice during the winter and the weather forecast for the next few months suggests that we will be challenged again very soon,” said Sophie.
“For the journeys we have to make, whether it’s getting home from work or picking the kids up from school, AutoSock Snow Socks provide extra grip that could make all the difference when the roads are slippery.”
Motorists are advised to use the snow socks for absolutely essential journeys and to stay below 30mph.
