Honda shines yet again as breakdown chart reveals offroader reliability
Honda’s HR-V has been revealed as the most reliable 4×4 around.
The Japanese manufacturer has strengthened its reputation for reliability with two appearances in Warranty Direct’s top ten list of 4x4s and SUVs least likely to break down.
As the HR-V topped the list with three in 100 recording a fault in the last 12 months, Honda’s CR-V also snagged third place after Suzuki’s Grand Vitara.
At the other end of the scale, Land Rover’s Range Rover was considered the most unreliable model with suspension and electrical gremlins at the heart of two in three reported breakdowns.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee (manufactured between 1999-2005) and Volkswagen’s Touareg (2003 onwards) followed the Range Rover’s miserable malfunction record while BMW’s X5 and the Volvo XC90 completed the bottom five.
Warranty Direct used its Reliability Index rating (www.reliabilityindex.co.uk) to assess how often vehicles break down, the average repair cost and time spent in the garage.
MD Duncan McClure Fisher said: “Modern 4x4s are a far cry from the noisy and uncomfortable off-roaders of the past.
“They are fairly expensive to run but our study shows that there’s a handful of incredibly reliable 4x4s which won’t break the bank.
“A four-wheel-drive vehicle is most definitely the transport of choice for any motorist during our cold months, particularly judging by our last few winters.”
