Supermarket pump prices unlock £32k savings, say Mycompanyfleet

Fleet managers looking to save on costs should swallow their pride and switch to filling up at supermarkets.

That’s the advice of Mycompanyfleet’s Jon Tandy who believes that supermarket petrol stations present the most viable option when combatting bloated prices at the pump.

Going off current AA figures, a litre of diesel from a supermarket forecourt costs 137.5p; 2.1p less than the national average.

Mr Tandy says that a company car driver clocking up 30,000 miles over 12 months in a Ford Mondeo 2.0 Duratorq TDCi – which averages 53.3mpg) would save £160.41 over three years by refilling at supermarkets rather than branded outlets.

‘Big deal’ you say, well, apply that to a fleet of 200 cars with a similar fuel economy and you’re looking at a saving of £32,082, just by refilling at your local supermarket.

Other options

Mycompanyfleet's Jon TandyBut what if you’re already a supermarket convert? Tandy, ’s newly appointed Business Development Manager, adds that there is a raft of other low-cost decisions that fleets can take to help cut fuel bills by between 5 and 10%.

He points to the company’s FleetAcumen management system which allows fleet bosses to set key performance indicators to measure parameters for fuel costs, such as pence per mile cost, miles per gallon, carbon emissions, compiling league tables of worst and best performing drivers.

“At Mycompanyfleet, we firmly believe that a powerful yet easy to use dashboard tool is key in helping our customers control fuel and other fleet operating costs,” he explains.

“FleetAcumen allows the fleet manager to configure the look and feel of the dashboard to suit his or her own business requirements, and it’s all encapsulated into our fleet software bundle so there’s no shock having to purchase an additional business intelligence tool to analyse it as there is with other systems.

“A powerful dashboard offering like ours will allow the user to make more informed decisions using benchmarking techniques.

“Fleet Acumen also operates on an enterprise-wide basis so that, rather than having separate systems for logistics, fleet management and fuel management, you get the complete fleet management toolset, including an advanced dashboard offering, to manage everyday back office tasks, like fines, maintenance, duty of care, grey fleet and all vehicle details.”
