Toyota Yaris passes the two-million mark

Red Toyota Yaris 2011The Toyota Yaris passed a significant milestone last week with the completion of its two-millionth model.

Since going into production in January 2001, the Yaris has gone on to become ’s biggest seller in Europe, forcing an increase of annual volume from 150,000 units to 262,000 in 2007.

The two millionth Yaris was a Burning Red 1.4L D-4D five-door model (like the one right there in the top right), ordered by a French customer. Toyota say that if every Yaris was placed tip to tail, it would stretch from London to Kathmandu – in excess of 4,600 miles.

Makoto Sano, President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) which also marked its 10th anniversary this year, said: “This important milestone was achieved thanks to the hard work and dedication of all our members in TMMF.”

The launch of the third generation Yaris last year created 800 extra jobs at Toyota’s Valenciennes plant and Sano believes production of the new Yaris Hybrid in 2012 will only add to the factory’s resilience.

“With the arrival of the new Yaris, TMMF is entering a dynamic new era,” he added.

“The latest model offers a promising prospect for our plant in Valenciennes.”

With CO2 emissions of 109g/km and an optimised mpg of 68.9, prices for the latest Yaris start from £11,170.
