Peugeot aims for “greater modernity” with all new 208
Peugeot has revealed all on its new 208; a brand new model which aims to rewrite the supermini rulebook.
More than just a numerical step-up, Peugeot say the inaugural 208 hopes to emulate previous success enjoyed with the 206 and 207 models albeit bigger and better, obviously.
Four of the five 208 models will feature stop/start technology with the diesel range returning 83.1 mpg and CO2 emissions starting from 87g/km and guaranteed never to creep into triple figures.
The 1.0 and 1.2L petrol variants are also expected to deliver a decent 65.7mpg with minimum emissions of 99g/km.
Lighter than the 207 by 110kg, the more compact 208 will combine agility and efficiency while increasing occupant space.
Those behind the 208’s development are already anticipating iconic achievements while Xavier Peugeot, Peugeot’s Marketing and Communication Director, said: “The 208 is a new illustration of the Marque’s project launched two years ago, representing a new stage in Peugeot’s desire to drive itself towards ever greater modernity.”
Style Director Gilles Vidal added: “The strength of the 208 lies in its style: it is a real ball of energy.
“It has the potential to please everyone, like a popular piece of music that touches the human soul regardless of culture.”
Mainland Europe will get the 208 first, ahead of its UK launch in summer 2012.
