LeasePlan plug in to new Prius
LeasePlan has been granted a special sneak peek at how Toyota’s new Prius Plug-in hybrid will perform ahead of its launch next year.
The leasing company – which operates a fleet of around 130,000 vehicles in the UK alone – hopes to gain an accurate depiction of the Prius Plug-in’s residual value as well as its effectiveness as a company car.
With a combined mpg of 134.5 and CO2 emissions of 49g/km, Toyota seems to have everything in place to make the Prius Plug-in a highly competitive fleet vehicle.
David Brennan, MD of LeasePlan UK, was pleased the company was helping lead the way for environmentally-friendly motoring.
He commented: “This trial will represent another step in delivering the best possible value and innovation to our clients across the UK.
“We believe it is important for our team to gain first-hand experience of new green vehicles to ensure we can deliver the best advice to our customers. We have enjoyed a longstanding partnership with Toyota and we are all excited to see what this innovative new model can bring to the table.”
Next stage
Ewan Shepherd, General Manager of Toyota Fleet, said the partnership opens LeasePlan clients to the practical application of the Plug-in’s technology prior to launch.
“Toyota is at the forefront of hybrid technology and our Plug-in hybrid represents the next stage of our development programme,” he added.
“The technology provides all the benefits of an EV but without the downsides of limited performance or driving range.”
Expected to ring in at less than £31,000 before any Government incentive is included, the next Prius will be able to travel 14 miles on its electric motor before switching to its 1.8-litre VVT-i petrol engine. A full recharge of the lithium-ion battery could be completed within 90 minutes.
