Volvo tipper meets South Wales
Bob Gay Plant Hire has introduced South Wales to its first Volvo FMX 8×4 tipper.
Stationed at the company’s Pontypridd depot, the FMX with personalised registration is also Bob Gay’s first new Volvo in over ten years and has been integrated into a fleet of artics, tippers, and excavators.
Driven by the D13C diesel rated at 380hp, the red, white and blue truck includes Volvo’s popular I-Shift two-pedal fully-automated gearbox; a feature previously unfamiliar to MD Robert Gay.
“Although we hadn’t any direct experience of the Volvo I-shift gearbox, I had heard great things about it. So expectations regarding the new Volvo’s performance are high,” said Mr Gay.
“We invested in a sleeper cab because these days we have to go where the work is and drivers are sometimes required to sleep in the vehicles.”
Designed with punishing on and off-road duties such as muck-away in mind, Volvo’s Darren Padfield said the FMX excels as a purpose-built, heavy-duty vehicle providing operators with a number of operational advantages.
“This is not your average muck-away tipper! This vehicle really stands out from the crowd,” explained the salesman.
