Skoda’s still saving lives
The Leeds Ambulance Service is the latest name to join the Skoda’s CV of medical clients.
Selected for their practicality and resilience in all weathers, the two 3.6-litre Superb Estates are currently being used to shift human organs around Britain for transplant by the Medical Transfer Ambulance Service (MTAS) in Leeds.
“We need the very best vehicle to help us transport organs safely and in the shortest possible time,” said Barry Hamblin, MTAS Cardiac Responder [pictured].
“This car really is Superb; it’s extremely reliable, a pleasure to drive and has become a crucial member of the team. It’s fit for purpose and helping us save lives.”
Barry outlined how vital a role the Superbs play in the transplant process: “The earlier the transplant, the better the success rate, so time is always of the essence.
“Take a heart transplant; we have a transfer window of just two hours before the organ becomes unviable.”
Mr Hamblin added that the Superb Estate proving highly effective in shrinking journey times.
Skoda UK’s Head of Fleet Martin Burke was delighted at such positive feedback.
“Our cars are ideal for use by the emergency services as they’re safe, extremely reliable and have great build quality,” he commented.
“We believe the MTAS in Leeds has made a smart choice with the Superb and we’re delighted the service has chosen to invest in ŠKODA.”
The MTAS’ decision comes just a few months after the East Midlands Ambulance Service ordered more than 60 Octavia Scout 4×4s for fast response duties [full story].
